One of the best ways to learn about your prospect or
customer is using a pause at two points in your
questioning: after you've asked the question, and
after the listener has answered.


Not just a brief pause, but a 2-3 second pause. Here
are some of the benefits of this technique.


1. You won't feel compelled to continue talking after
asking the question if you force yourself to pause.
People don't always immediately answer, and pausing
gives them the opportunity to think a bit.


2. The number and length of responses will increase.
People feel more comfortable when you give them time
to frame their answers, which will likely be more
comprehensive.


3. The amount of unsolicited information will increase.
By not jumping in immediately after they've answered,
they're given a little time to contemplate what they've
just said, which may prompt additional comments.


4. You'll have more time to understand what they've
said. Since you know you're going to pause, you can
spend all of your listening time focused on the message,
not on what you will say next.


5. You'll have more time to formulate your next comment.
You can use your pause time to develop your next question
or statement, which will be more meaningful, since you'll
possess more relevant information.


ACTION STEP
Force yourself to pause after your question, and after
they answer. I've seen reps hold the "mute" button on their
phone for a couple of seconds so they restrain themselves.
Practice this on the phone and in all areas of your life.
You'll find you get more information than you ever have.

It seems the guys at head office are going all out just now to make it easier to gather those all important customers.
Look at the recent spate of redution son international calling,with 25 countries available for the miserly rate of 2p a minute including most European countries.
Look also at the introduction of Clubcall mobile with calls to Homephone no's at 5p a minute anytime night or day so sign up your customer's for both where possible you'll be doing them a favour anyway.
Remember to submit your signed form to head office if you wish to gather energy customers avalable form the extra net downloads section.
I recently laid hands on a comparison tool for mobile phones,it could be usefull for anyone on the team,wanting to offer a free compariosn to workmates on their lunchreak,club etc.

Become A Problem Solver Expand Your Customer Base

How becoming a problem solver can work for you.
Just think of all the calls and unsolicited ads, householders and business men getting pushing the latest all singing all gadget or service get.
This is where you come in, instead of going straight for the sale, if you ask them lots of questions, and take an interest in the person in front of you or on the other end of the phone, they will come to know trust and like you, especially as you get them talking about their favourite subject themselves.

Remembering of course to ask questions about their utilities, with some social chat flung in ,afterwards remember to make a note of any interesting points that come up like hobbies kids etc ,so you reference them later on.
Always be genuinely interested in helping them solve their problems, bills too high etc.

Promote benefits not features ,half price calls from mobiles to home phone customers, free calls to their friends and family when they take the home phone service as well.
A point to remember is that the most successful businesses solve problems first, the money comes as a by product of being a problem solver.
Tesco’s could be considered to be an illustration of the point, just think, how easy it is to get all of your shopping at your local store ,much like us except we are a one stop utility shop .

When you get a potential Id it’s a similar process, are they looking for more money, more free time ,etc etc.
Why do they want whatever it is ,what would be the result of not having it, once you find out what they want help them get it, also it will help them when having a bad spell to look at their reasons for starting their own business as success can take a while to arrive, determination and stamina are two key qualities for any entrepreneur.
